Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
The Black Panther suit in Wakanda Forever is a masterful fusion of intricate patterns, advanced technology, and cultural heritage. Inspired by African textiles, its geometric designs add depth and meaning, balancing tradition with innovation. The black Okavango triangles serve both functional and symbolic roles, representing Wakanda’s connection to the earth and its technological prowess. Subtle circuit-like patterns enhance the suit’s aesthetic while reinforcing the unity of Wakanda’s people. This meticulous surface design defines the suit’s sleek, battle-ready look while deepening its cultural significance.
Academy Award Winner for Best Costume Design, 2023
As a Surface Designer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever:
- I worked closely with the award winning Costume Designer Ruth Carter and a team of subcontractors to align the designs with the character and narrative
- Prepare repeat patterns and production-ready files for printing, dyeing, or embroidery
- Adapt designs based on budget, time constraints, and technical requirements
Contribution
Worked in collaboration with Academy Award-winning Costume Designer Ruth E. Carter on Marvel’s Wakanda Forever, contributing to the surface design of the Black Panther suit, the Midnight Angels, Okoye, and the submersible suits for Nakia. Ensured all textures and patterns reflected the film’s artistic direction and cultural narrative with precision and creativity.

Nakia's Suit
Nakia’s suit in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a sleek, ocean-inspired combat design that reflects both her role as a Wakandan spy and her connection to the seas. The suit is predominantly deep teal and jade green, accented with silver vibranium detailing that forms subtle wave-like patterns across the armor. Its streamlined silhouette allows for agility and stealth, while reinforced plating along the chest, arms, and legs provides protection without sacrificing mobility. Overall, the suit blends Wakandan technology with aquatic symbolism, visually signaling her evolution into a powerful, independent warrior.

Creative Process
I collaborated closely with fabricators to select advanced materials that captured a sleek vibranium look while remaining flexible for action. I designed geometric surface patterns that blended Wakandan culture with futuristic technology and stayed practical for filming. Working with Film Illusions Inc. and Key Specialty Customer Federico Cervantes, we merged traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques to create a suit that balanced cultural authenticity with the character’s physical demands, resulting in a strong visual statement for Wakanda.

Okoye's Jumpsuit
Okoye’s black jumpsuit in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever symbolizes a powerful departure from the traditional Dora Milaje armor, replacing ceremonial colors with a sleek, tactical design that reflects mourning, inner conflict, and resilience, while emphasizing her transformation into a more solitary, battle-hardened warrior driven by duty rather than status.
